Ridgewood's Super Soccer Saturday To Raise Money For Mom Battling Brain Tumor

Proceeds from the Sept. 10 event will be donated to Amy McCambridge, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in May.

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — The high school boys' and girls' soccer teams are coming together to help a former player who was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

The Ridgewood High School soccer programs will host Super Soccer Saturday Sept. 10. A portion of this year's proceeds will be donated to help resident Amy Steepe, a Ridgewood High School alumnus and Marine Corps veteran who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in May.

Steppe had to stop working due to the diagnosis and her husband was serious injured while serving in the military in Iraq, cannot work due to his injuries. More than $37,000 has been donated to help Steepe's family.

The event began a few years ago as a way of promoting unity among the high school's freshman, junior varsity, and varsity soccer teams.

"We encourage our community's youth soccer organizations to participate in the day, hoping our young players will identify with our high school teams as a means to give them both an advanced athletic and educational experience as they proceed with their education at Ridgewood High School, said Jeff Yearing, head coach of the women's varsity team.

The village's youth soccer players will also participate in the fundraiser.

Players from the Under 11 Maroons Soccer Club and the Ridgewood Soccer Association youth players will serve a ball girls and boys during the games. The Under Eight and Under Nine players will walk the varsity players onto the field.

The fundraiser is the home opener for the girl's varsity and freshman teams, who will host Indian Hills High School. The girls' games will be at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 7 p.m. while the boys' teams will play at 1, 3, and 5 p.m.

"I'm so excited to be a part of the Super Soccer Saturday tradition of bringing together the soccer community to enjoy this beautiful game," said boys' first year head coach Aidan McCluskey.
