Local Youth Takes the Stage in "Narnia"

Play will run March 11, 12 and 13 at FDU's Becton Theatre.

The following press release was submitted by The Garage Theatre Group:

Lions get some of the best parts in the theater.  From Elsa in Born Free to Mufasa and Simba in The Lion King – lions help us laugh, live courageously, and lead from the heart. March 11 –March 13 The Garage Theatre Group Youth Conservatory brings Narnia to the stage with one of my all-time favorite lions – Aslan.

In the dark days of World War II, four young English children find themselves swept into a classic conflict between good and evil.  In the land beyond a mysterious wardrobe, the quartet follows the noble lion Aslan in his quest to triumph over the evil White Witch.

That is Narnia, the latest production from the Garage Theatre Group’s acclaimed Youth Conservatory. The production, featuring talented teens from the Tri-State area including Oradell fifth grader Olivia Tumino, runs March 11 - 13 on the  campus, 960 River Road in Teaneck.

Narnia is based on C.S. Lewis’ classic novel, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe—the same book that was the basis for the spectacular film a few years ago.  The book is by award-winning playwright Jules Tasca, with music and lyrics by Thomas Tierney and Ted Drachman. As performed by the Garage Theatre Youth Conservatory, Narnia is an evening of singing, dancing and adventure!

The Youth Conservatory’s latest production is a delight for the entire family, boasting a memorable score of songs. It speaks to both kids and adults in the same way that Lewis' original Narnia books have remained timeless classics. Narnia is a roller-coaster adventure of a musical: joyous, suspenseful, funny and exciting in turn.  It’s a night of singing and dancing that shouldn’t be missed! And who knows, maybe your child will end up on stage as part of Aslan’s army.

The Garage Theatre Groups’ Youth Conservatory’s unique family atmosphere successfully uses theater performances and classes to develop a strong sense of self-esteem and to nurture social and communication skills that are useful in all walks of life. The Garage Theatre Groups’ Youth Conservatory is committed to providing an enriching theatrical experience  thereby reinforcing the positive role the arts play in academic success
