Carcinogens, Toxins Found on Lawrence Playing Fields

The ball fields of this South Brunswick rival are contaminated with arsenic.

Lawrence Township, NJ - Carcinogens have been found on the softball and baseball playing fields of nearby Lawrence High School, a main rival of South Brunswick's.

High levels of carcinogens were found on one field earlier this month, and then more fields were tested. The results came back Thursday: Three other fields tested high, as well, reports NJ.com.

Four fields in total are contaminated, and they are ones used by varsity, junior varsity and middle school baseball and softball teams. They all tested positive for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, or PAHs, and arsenic. It's still unknown where the toxins came from, and especially, how they got on the fields in such high amounts.
