WEATHER UPDATE: 'Heavy' Snow Coming To New Jersey As Black Ice Hits

Five to 9 inches of snow possible in much of New Jersey on Wednesday and Thursday. Roads slowed by accidents, speed restrictions.

Winter ain’t done. In fact, it’s about to get worse.

The Tuesday commute was a rough ride for drivers as yet another storm promises to soak New Jersey on Wednesday and Thursday.

“Prepare now: The main event has yet to come,” The Weather Channel said on its website.

The National Weather Service has issued a “Winter Storm Warning” that will take effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 7 p.m. Thursday.

That warning says:

  • Snow and sleet accumulations: New Jersey got mostly an ice coating into Tuesday evening, then will get 5 to 9 inches in Central and South Jersey, and 3 to 7 inches in North Jersey, on Wednesday night and Thursday.
  • The bulk of the snow will hit the central and southern portions of the state, according to News12.
  • The amount of snow accumulation Wednesday night and Thursday will depend on how quickly the rain changes to snow and if sleet lasts longer during the transition.
  • Ice accumulations: A light glaze through Tuesday evening.
  • Timing: Possibly heavy snow at times on Wednesday night and continuing Thursday
  • News12 reported that less than an inch of ice has formed on roads throughout the state.
  • Snow, sleet and freezing rain will continue to cause travel problems in most parts of New Jersey on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
  • In parts of the Northeast, “prolonged icing could lead to downed trees and power outages,’’ according to Accuweather.

So far, on Wednesday this has happened:

  • 35-mph speed restrictions on the Outerbridge Crossing and Goethals Bridge.
  • A disabled vehicle on the New Jersey Turnpike - Hudson County Extension eastbound east of Exit 14 - I-78 in Newark. Right lane blocked.
  • An overturned truck on I-80 eastbound west of Exit 12 in Blairstown Twp. Right lane closed.

According to weather.com:

By 1 a.m. Wednesday, temperatures were to rise to about 36 degrees. Temperatures will continue to rise Wednesday, reaching the low- to mid-40s by the afternoon.
