Decision Day In South Orange: See Where To Vote And When
After a heated and contentious election cycle, South Orange residents will be casting their vote for Village President and Trustees Tuesday.
SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - Marching to the beat of its own drum, the Village of South Orange is headed for a Tuesday election where voters will get the chance to decide who should be the next Village President and which three should join the Board of Trustees.
South Orange is one of the few communities in New Jersey who operate under the Village type of government, which is an adaptation of the Village Form of government. In South Orange, elections are non-partisan and the requirement for candidacy is the person be a resident registered as a voter for one year.
Most Village type governments align with the Township Committee and Mayor in the Township form correspond to the Board of Trustees and the President of the Board in the Village form. But in the case of South Orange, the Board President is also voted on separately.

The election cycle has been a particularly contentious one with social media accusations and a series of campaign flyers were also taken to task for their truthfulness. There were even a couple of candidate forums and a couple of ballot errors thrown in the mix.
But not, the time has come to choose. On May 14, voters will have to choose between incumbent Sheena Collum who is seeking a second term and her opponent, Deborah Davis Ford.
