Official Firehouse Rededication Scheduled for Saturday

South Orange will be celebrating the completion of the restoration and renovation of its firehouse, originally constructed in 1924. A rededication ceremony will be held in front of the firehouse on Saturday, June 12, at 10 a.m.

The $3.2 million renovation included a total restoration, renovation and modernization of the exterior and interior of the firehouse, a 3,100 square foot addition with new office space, a training room and a new bay.

The ceremony will include an interfaith blessing for both the firehouse and  the SOFD's new engines that were purchased during the construction but never properly dedicated. A number of local, state and elected officials will be in attendance, including Congressman Bill Pascrell, former Gov. Richard Codey, Assemblyman John McKeon and Assemblywoman Mila Jasey. Also in attendance will be officials from funding agencies such as the New Jersey Historic Trust, the Department of Community Affairs, the Department of Environmental Protection and the state Historic Preservation Office.

Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served after the official ceremonies. The public is encouraged to come for a tour of the renovated facilities and enjoy food and conversation with firefighters and elected officials.
