The Week That Was in South Orange

A fracas in Grove Park after the annual pre-prom showcase on Tuesday evening was the big news of the week.

On Monday, we had coverage from Orange's Valley Arts Music and Poetry Festival, the ceremony to add WWI soldier George McCoy's name to a South Orange war memorial, and the Celebrate South Orange sloppy-joe eating contest. We also had a story on South Orange athletes' wins at the state Special Olympics.

On Tuesday, we reported on the Board of Education's vote to approve deleveling of the seventh grade. We also had a wrapup of the CHS baseball team's impressive season and coverage of an exhibition at the Pierro Gallery featuring work by some of its most committed volunteers.

On Wednesday, we reported on a disturbance at Grove Park after the annual pre-prom showcase in which arrests were made for disorderly conduct, possession of brass knuckles, and possession of marijuana. We also had photos and video of prom goers and stories on a reception held for retiring school district employees and the South Orange Middle School science bowl. And Seton Hall named a one-year interim president.

On Thursday, we had a story on Maplewood man who launched a website to explore New Jersey's ethnic food options and a profile on CHS student Ben Brown, who umpires for Little League in his free time. We reported on South Orange's incoming Village Clerk, Robin Kline, and 426 CHS seniors graduated.

On Friday, we had a wrapup of the CHS girls lacrosse season and a report on a fire in a Prospect Street apartment building, which was quickly put out by firefighters. We also had a profile on South Orange Rescue Squad volunteer Ashley Lively.
