• Burrell leads No. 8 Morris Knolls to comeback win over Sparta (nj.com subscription) — Sparta High School's field hockey team dropped a tight 4-3 home game to eighth-ranked Morris Knolls after leading 2-1 at halftime. Sparta's Makayla Brown scored twice and goalie Callie Haines made 14 saves, but Morris Knolls surged in the second half to stay unbeaten in early-season play.

• Sparta Police, EMS Rescue Hiker from the Glen (tapinto.net) — Sparta police and EMS used a grant-funded utility terrain vehicle to rescue a hiker suffering a cardiac event on the Glen's Blue Trail, then transported her to Newton Medical Center. Officials praised dispatchers' quick work and said the specialized vehicle, bought for Sparta's trail system, was crucial to reaching the remote spot and getting her safely out.
