The recreation department presents their annual Halloween Spooktacular on Sunday, October 26, at Florence Gaudineer Middle School – Events Include Costume Contest, Illusionist, Face Painting, Magician, Crafts, Balloon Art, and Trunk-or-Treat.

Springfield youth are invited to dress up in their most creative costumes and participate in the Recreation Department’s Halloween Spooktacular. The annual free event – featuring new exciting and scary elements – will take place on Sunday, October 26, 2014, from 12:00-4:00 pm, at Florence Gaudineer Middle School, 75 South Springfield Avenue.

Starting at 12:00 pm, infants through high school-age children will gather for a costume contest, sponsored by the Springfield Patriot Chamber of Commerce. Children will be judged in the following age groups: Infants-Kindergartners, 1st-5th graders, 6th-8th graders, and 9th-12th graders. All children should register when they arrive and receive a coded identification sticker. Winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded promptly at 12:30 pm.

Two thrilling illusion shows by Anthony Salazar will scare and delight the crowd at 12:45 pm and 1:30 pm. Prepare to be spooked and amazed!

From 12:00-2:00 pm, a variety of activities will be available for all participants. A magician and an animal balloon artist will be strolling the crowd – so be on the lookout! Halloween face painting and crafts will be supervised by members of the Jonathan Dayton High School Alternatives Club. The Springfield Municipal Alliance will be distributing free Halloween safety gifts.

At 1:55 pm, all those in attendance will march to the rear parking lot for the Trunk-or-Treat – a fundraiser hosted by the Thelma Sandmeier School PTA from 2:00-4:00 pm. The event gives families and children an opportunity to trick-or-treat in a safe and contained environment. Trick-or-treaters and those who are interested in decorating their cars and distributing candy are asked to pre-register and submit the requested donation to the Thelma Sandmeier School PTA.
