Video Shows Robber Brutally Beating Summit Gas Attendant With Wrench

Breaking: The masked robber shown in this video is still at large. Summit Police are asking for help in identifying the suspect.

SUMMIT, NJ — Summit Police have released this graphic video showing an alleged gas station robber hitting an attendant in the head multiple times before stealing cash from the register Sunday night, police report.

The robbery was reported when a 911 call came in around 11 p.m. on July 9 at the Shell gas station located at 6 River Road.

The gas station attendant reported that a male, wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt and a dark bandanna covering his face, approached him on foot and demanded the cash from the register.

As the attendant turned and opened the register drawer, the male struck him in the back of his head with a large wrench. The male struck the attendant a second time across his head and then removed the cash from the register, police report.

The male fled the scene, running Northeast on River Road.

The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 5’10 tall, medium build, wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt, green gloves and a dark bandanna covering his face.

Multiple Summit Police units and the Union County Sheriff's Department K9 unit searched the surrounding area but couldn't find the suspect.

The attendant, who suffered a laceration to his forehead, was transported to Morristown Medical Center by Summit EMS.
