Firefighters Battle Basement Fire At Multi-Family Summit Home

Firefighters from across Union County came to help extinguish the fire on Saturday.

SUMMIT, NJ — A fire was reported in the basement of a multi-family residence in Summit on Saturday.

On Oct. 12 at around 4:33 p.m., smoke was reported coming from the home on Irving Place. Summit Police Officers reported an active fire in the basement of the home and Summit Fire Department arrived at 4:37 p.m.

Searches of the floors of the home were conducted, confirming reports that all residents were safely evacuated from the home, according to Summit officials.

Millburn, Springfield, Union, and Hillside fire departments, Summit Police, Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad, Summit Building Department, Union County Fire Investigation Unit, and the Red Cross also came out to help.

The fire was declared under control at 5:05 p.m.

Additional building coverage was provided by New Providence, Westfield, and Plainfield fire departments.

There were no reported injuries to first responders or residents.
