Pedestrian, 66, Struck And Killed Crossing Union County Road: Police

The woman was attempting to cross the road on Wednesday morning when she was hit by a pickup truck, police said.

The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad transported the woman to Overlook Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, per police. The victim has not been identified.

SUMMIT, NJ — A woman died after being hit by a car while trying to cross the street in Summit on Wednesday morning, according to police.

The collision happened around 6:51 a.m., on River Road, officials said. Police said the woman, a 66-year-old Newark resident, was trying to cross in the middle of the block near the intersection of Plain Street. The driver of a 2018 Toyota Tundra struck her, causing serious injuries, said police.

The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad transported the woman to Overlook Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, per police. The victim has not been identified.

River Road has reopened between Morris Avenue and Plain Street, according to police.

The Tundra driver is a 70-year-old Hopatcong man, police added.

The Summit Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau and the Union County Accident Reconstruction Team will investigate this incident. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Summit Police Department at 908-273-0051.
