Breaking: The man and woman were standing in the middle of the tracks near the Anderson Street train station, officials said.

Two people, a man and a woman, were killed by a NJ Transit train in Hackensack Wednesday afternoon, NJ Transit confirmed.

The people were hit at about 1:30 p.m. by a train on the Pascack Valley Line, said Nancy Snyder, a NJ Transit spokesperson. They were standing in the middle of the tracks near the intersection of Main Street and Terrace Place, she said.

The 48-year-old woman and 51-year-old man live in Hackensack, said Hackensack Police Capt. Timothy Lloyd. Their names were not released pending notification of their next of kin.
