Bergen Senator Sponsoring Legislation Banning Styrofoam In Schools
Loretta Weinberg's (D-37) bill would prohibit food or drinks or high schools or colleges from being served in Styrofoam cups or containers.

TEANECK, NJ — School districts and colleges could soon have to ban serving Styrofoam in their cafeterias if state officials approve legislation.
Senator Loretta Weinberg (D-37) will sponsor the Senate version of the legislation that was already sponsored in the Assembly by Weinberg's district colleague Valerie Vanieri Huttle.
The legislation would not apply to any food or drinks that come to the schools already packaged in Styrofoam.

The legislation would be the latest local step in eliminating Styrofoam from children's lives after residents have launched the grassroots campaign against the material.
The Leonia Board of Education recently banned Styrofoam lunch trays at Anna C. Scott Elementary School. The district's middle and high schools will switch to non-Styrofoam trays next school year.
