District Plans to Announce Interim Business Administrator

Teaneck Public School District is preparing for the departure of Business Administrator Sean Gately, who will step down Sept. 30.

An interim school district business administrator will be announced in the next two weeks, as current Business Administrator Sean Gately plans to step down Sept. 30, Interim Superintendent Barbara Pinsak said.

Gately, who also served as Board of Education secretary, resigned for personal reasons in August, according to a statement on the school district's website.  Gately did not return calls and e-mail messages for comment.

Pinsak said she wants an interim administrator in place before Gately leaves to make sure there is a smooth transition.  The district is about halfway through the process of selecting a permanent replacement and has reviewed a range of candidates, Pinsak said.

"It is my understanding that we are still accepting applications for the position and actively reviewing candidates," Board of Education President Ardie Walser said in an e-mail.  "Obviously, we would like to select a permanent Business Administrator as soon as possible. But it is imperative that this person be the right person for the job and this may take more time—maybe even more time than we would like."

The district is also searching for a permanent superintendent after the death of previous superintendent John Czeterko and the resignation of his replacement, Constance Clark-Snead, who stepped down five days before her first day on the job.

Walser said the Board of Education is working with Leadership Advantage, the search firm that was used to hire Clark-Snead, to change the parameters of the search. He declined to provide specifics on possible changes.

When asked if he would like to see Pinsak become the permanent superintendent, Walser said, "She is a viable candidate. Right now she is doing a great job."

Pinsak was assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction before being named to the interim post.  She began her career in Teaneck as a teacher in 1975 and also served as supervisor of instruction for technology K-8, and principal of Lowell Elementary School and Benjamin Franklin Middle School.
