Celebrate Hispanic Heritage at the Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library

TOMS RIVER – The Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library will host “Then & Now: Celebrating Hispanic Heritage” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, September 19 in Mancini Hall.

Award-winning filmmaker Walter Alomar is the featured speaker for the event. At 12:10 p.m. he will screen his film Colonization is Extinction, which frames Puerto Rico’s history and ongoing struggle as part of a broader colonial project.

Other presentations for the celebration will include:

·“Voices of Change” by Mary Garin – the evolving Hispanic diaspora and its impact on Ocean County’s economic landscape – at 11:10 a.m.

·“Latino Genealogy” by Dr. Ellen Fernandez-Sacco, PhD at 11:35 a.m.

·A performance by Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre at 2:10 p.m.

Light, cultural refreshments will be provided by El Familiar.

This program is open to all ages.
