Girl's Video For Ocean Of Love In NBC/Mazda Contest

Point Pleasant Beach teen's effort to help Toms River charity could get highlighted at Rockefeller Center Wednesday

A Point Pleasant Beach teenager’s video to raise money for the charity Ocean of Love could bring it a big boost.

Mackenzie Malpass’s video urging people to donate to the Toms River charity is one of 32 entries in the Mazda Drive 4 Good contest, where people had to nominate charities they thought were deserving of assistance. The winning charity will receive $30,000 worth of goods and services to assist its mission, according to the contest rules.

The winning entry, selected by a panel of judges, will be announced during NBC’s broadcast of the lighting of the tree at Rockefeller Center on Wednesday evening. That broadcast begins at 8 p.m.

Mackenzie created the video this summer with the assistance of family and friends because she wanted to do something that would have a bigger impact for a cancer charity. She chose Ocean of Love because of family friends who are involved with the organization, which assists the families of Ocean County children who are battling cancer.

Mackenzie’s video is currently the fourth-most popular entry on the site. Vote for it by clicking this link and then clicking the heart icon at the top right corner of the narrative about the video.
