Island Heights Library Unveils New Bike Rack Courtesy of Local Eagle Scout

ISLAND HEIGHTS – On August 15, the Island Heights Branch of the Ocean County Library welcomed local Eagle Scout Roman Fumo for the unveiling of a brand-new bike rack. Fumo built the bike rack for the branch as his Eagle Scout project. Trustees of the Island Heights Library, friends and family of Roman, and community members attended the ceremony.

“This bike rack will benefit the community members by providing them with a safe place to store their bicycles and keeping the sidewalks and entranceways to the building clear,” said Island Heights Branch Manager Chris Maloney.

The bike rack is currently available to use for library customers.

“The Island Heights Library and scouting have been part of my life for as long as I can remember,” said Fumo. “I’m so happy that I can benefit my community and support the library that supported me… I’d like to thank my entire scout troop for their support, my dad, my mom, and my brother for being extremely supportive of me. I’d also like to thank my dad for helping me paint the mural that will be unveiled and… everybody for supporting me and my crazy dream of having a bike rack.”

Fumo is a lifelong customer of the library and a teen volunteer since 2023.
