'Swatting' Blamed In Social Media Threat To Toms River South
Extra security will be present at all the district's schools out of an abundance of caution, authorities said
TOMS RIVER, NJ — A "potential threat" to Toms River High School South that circulated on social media Thursday evening has been determined to be a swatting incident, authorities said Friday morning.
Toms River police, in an update to its Facebook post about the social media post, said authorities "have not found evidence of a credible threat," but said it is similar to hoax threats circulating in other parts of New Jersey and across the country. "We will continue to investigate to find the source of the post," police said.
Toms River Regional district officials, in an update to staff, students and families Friday morning, said the threat circulated on Snapchat but was determined to be swatting. The district said additional security including an increased police presence would be present at all the district's schools.

Toms River police did not release details of the nature of the potential threat.
Hoax threats have circulated in the wake of Tuesday's assault at a Tennessee elementary school that killed three 9-year-olds and three adults.

An unsubstantiated threat led to a shelter-in-place at an elementary school in Robbinsville and a lockdown was done at the middle school in Metuchen after a report of an unknown person near the school.
