Clarksville Road Bridge Repair Timeline Uncertain

Traffic-signal reviews, utility coordination and steel fabrication continue on the Clarksville Road bridge project.

WEST WINDSOR, NJ — Work on the Clarksville Road bridge over Amtrak’s rail corridor is moving forward, with crews fabricating structural steel and advancing traffic-signal plans, but officials have not announced when the project will be completed or the roadway reopened.

A project update released Friday identified an unresolved fiber-optic issue and pending traffic-signal approvals among the matters still requiring coordination.

The bridge carries Clarksville Road, also designated Mercer County Route 638, over the Amtrak corridor in West Windsor Township. The project involves Mercer County, Amtrak, the New Jersey Department of Transportation, utility representatives, the project designer and the contractor.

According to the update, the designer requested revisions to plans for traffic signals associated with the project. Those changes are under review.

Once the revised plans are completed and approved, NJDOT’s Government and Community Relations team is expected to contact West Windsor Township and Mercer County to obtain recommendations and necessary approvals.

Officials are also working to resolve concerns involving a fiber-optic line in the construction area. The utility company and Amtrak are arranging an on-site meeting to inspect conditions and determine how to address the issue, though no meeting date was disclosed.

Physical work is continuing in the meantime. With access and assistance from Amtrak, the contractor obtained measurements needed to proceed with fabrication. A crew also continued field fabrication of structural steel at the project site.

Residents and motorists should monitor official West Windsor Township and Mercer County notices for information about closures, detours and future construction milestones.
