Am I Crazy?

One ordinary woman's journey into the extreme

I don’t know how to do anything halfway. I don’t think I ever have. Let me explain. First, I am an only child. My family was me, my parents, my grandmother and a handful of distant relatives and that was it, period. So I got the whole small family thing down good. Next I was married at 19. Hello, can you get anymore all or nothing there? After that I spent almost six years trying to have kids with no luck. Then on my very last try when I had nothing left to give financially or emotionally I become pregnant with triplets. The light bulb is going on over your head now isn’t it? My husband and I (and yes he is still my husband) have moved nine times in 17 years. And to put to rest any doubt of my ability to be extreme, in addition to my now 10-year-old triplets we have nine pets: two dogs, three cats, two gerbils, one hamster and a turtle.

So it should come as no shock to me that once again I will be doing an extreme. I on Nov. 6, 2011 will be running in the NYC marathon: 26.2 miles of extreme torture. Am I crazy? The most extreme thing here is that I am not an athlete and I have MS. This is going to be a long six months and if you want to take this journey with me I promise I won’t quit. I will complain, but I will also inspire you to think about your own goals as you join me to achieve mine. So let the training begin.
