The Westwood Softball rec season has ended, and now the summer travel league begins for some of our girls. Keep watching this blog for news about the intense action in the summer league played by girls in grades 5-8.
I think I can speak for my fellow coaches when I say that the end of every softball season is a bittersweet time. It’s exciting to see how far our teams have come, how our players improved as we compare their play from the first spring training sessions to the final regular season game. But the end of the season can be a sad time because we get pretty attached to these kids. We spend a few days a week with them for a couple of months… and then it’s over in the blink of an eye as the last “yer out” is called. We pour our experience, encouragement, energy and love for the game into the players and it means the world to us to see their confidence grow. We rejoice with them at their first hit, or the first time they made the play to the right base(!) or hustled to make a great play. Little things like that are lessons to build on as the girls grow and mature, in and out of softball.
I know all my fellow coaches agree that we consider our players to be extensions of our families. We care about these kids, and love nothing more than to see them excel in softball and in life. If you see one of your coaches in and around Westwood, be sure to say “hi.” We promise to give you a smile and a high five.

From all of us coaches: Thanks to you parents for getting the girls to practices and games on time, and for enduring dirty uniforms, infield clay tracked through your house, black and blue marks, etc. We look forward to next season! And come back to this blog as I will keep you informed of our traveling girls softball teams this summer.
