On Monday, May 9 the Westwood Seniors (7/8/9) welcomed Montvale to our first home game under the lights at Westvale field. The Seniors played well defeating Montvale 9 to 7. Montvale was down 9 to 3 at the top of the seventh and came back strong only to fall short in the end. Marcella O. pitched four strong innings in relief striking out seven and only allowing one run. Olivia G. started and pitched well allowing only three hits. Our defense was in shut down mode featuring quality defensive plays by our entire team and specifically Delia D. in left. Emily M. hit a grand slam in the third and another solo home run in the fifth to lead the team in offense.
Coach Dave Hohmann says that with our Freshman finishing up their school playing seasons at Westwood and Bergen Tech, it will be nice to start having everyone on the field. The season is just under way and we’re off to a good start!
The Seniors team hosted Park Ridge under the lights at a home game on May 13. It was PR's strong pitching staff that led them to an 8-0 victory. The sting from the loss didn't last too long as we celebrated anyway with cupcakes for Assistant Coach Denise Burns' birthday. Ah, the healing power of sugar!
