Coming to Town - Post Memorial Day
A "pre-blog" as we make our way to our new hometown of Westwood.

We are just about a month away from moving to Westwood from "points south." Like WW, we also had a Memorial Day service. However, due to budget constraints, our town was unable to have parades for the past couple (few?) years. I am thrilled to hear of Westwood's dedication to a parade as well as a ceremony.
It's difficult balancing between the somber remembrance and the joyous celebration that comes with the occasion. The "barbecues and beer" crowd (I prefer the former not the latter, sorry) often forget the purpose of the day.
Yesterday, as a member of the so-called community leadership where we are now living, I was given the honor and privilege of announcing both the presence of my father, a World War 2 vet, and the remembrance of his brother, who did not return from the same war.

Events like these are the remaining ways keeping our seemingly crumbling communities together. Thanks, Westwood!
Peace (really!)
