Early Results from the First Softball Games of the Season

With all the Westwood Softball Association teams at all levels hitting the fields, game results are coming fast and furious.

3/4 Team 1 (Pompilio's) opened their season with a tough 8-6 home loss to Hillsdale 4 at Westvale B.  Hillsdale came back from a 4-2 deficit to score 6 in the top of the 5th.  The girls competed hard and are learning a great deal about the game.  

5/6 Team DiCuffa opened their season with a resounding win, playing at Park Ridge.  It was a cool, misty evening, and the girls came out of the gate on fire, banging out 14 hits on their way to a 20-8 victory.

The offensive blitz was led by Lauren B (8 RBIs, including a 3-run triple and 3-run double), Jillian P (a grand slam!).  Delaney F and Tina F had three hits each, while Ally D chipped in with two hits.  The team was up 9-2 after two innings and never looked back.

Pitching was steady, led by Tina F, Sara K, and Lauren B.  Nice plays in the field too, including a snare of a line drive heading to the right field corner by first baseman Ally D, and a nifty pickup of a groundball by Lauren B for a force at second thanks to a heads up play by SS Jillian B to cover the base.
