Lazy Summer Days

Summer days are not always good for getting things done

Now that summer has officially begun, and the kids are out of school, my schedule should be nice and relaxed. However, that has yet to happen. With three kids I guess home life is never relaxed and my idea of relaxing faded away 10 years ago. We still have birthday parties to get to, tennis lessons, play dates and plenty of errands to run. Not having to make lunches for school or worry about them doing their homework is a beautiful thing, but I feel like the lazy days of summer do not apply here. Where it does seem to apply is in my running schedule. Unfortunately, with the kids home 24/7 my running has come to a screeching halt during the week. I have found my weekend long runs are the only time I have to get it done before the heat of the day kicks in. I tend to lean towards being a procrastinator on occasion that never serves me well.

I have a very strict training outline for 17 weeks leading up to the marathon, and it does not start until July 11. I think this gives me license to not be quite so serious about running until then, but does it really? I remember back when I ran the half marathon, I was  wishing that I had started my training earlier, ran more and pushed harder. I do not want to be in that same spot again come November but it is easier said than done. Other things call to me like sitting poolside, vacations, going to the movies and sleeping in. Right now 5 p.m. cookouts sound better than 5 a.m. runs, and the sounds of the kids splashing in the pool sure beats hearing them complain about nothing to do. However, July 11 is fast approaching so maybe today I will get in a quick run. Then again there is always tomorrow.
