Motivation

Motivation verses procrastination

Motivation is a very elusive thing. Many times motivation will hide behind procrastination.  Procrastination is much easier to find and many times more enjoyable to do. That is what I am doing now. Tomorrow, May 6, will mark exactly six months until the marathon, and so far the only real running I have done in the last year is running my kids to their various events. Isn’t it funny how we sit in a car driving from thing to thing and call that running around? None the less, that is the extent of my running. Unless you count running to get out of the rain, running to the grocery store and running up a bill, in that case I have done more training than I originally thought.  But the truth of the matter is that I need to start actually running. In order to do this I need to find my motivation. I can’t quite remember where I put it and when I call it, it acts like an elusive puppy who doesn’t know it’s name just yet and will not come. I have tried a few tactics to get it to come like watching "The Biggest Loser," reading runner’s world magazine and even looking up training information online, but no luck.

It is time to get serious; I need a playlist on my iPod. Yes, that will do it. A new playlist filled with tons of running songs! Songs that when I hear them I cannot help but lace up my sneakers and hit the open road. Songs that make me think I can run 26.2 miles and climb a mountain at the same time. Songs that bring tears to my eyes and make my heart soar with passion to achieve all my lofty goals. Yes that is what I need to do! I will sit down and go through the thousands of songs on my computer, hand selecting each one. I will spend hours poring over each choice and it’s placement in the list to make sure I have the best picks at the right time. This will push me to get out there and pound the pavement and start my training. I will make sure I do this, tomorrow. After all I still have one more day until my six-month mark. You see how easy procrastination is don’t you?
