News from the 7/8/9 Westwood Softball Team
Westwood's 7/8/9 team continues their winning ways...
Our weather lately is up and down from one day to the next, and you would've thought it was football season on a recent Friday night, with the spectators wrapped in blankets and the coaches sportin' long johns, but Westwood Softball's 7/8/9 division team was ON FIRE in a late game with Montvale at Flagg field, Montvale. Starting pitcher, Olivia G, faced 4 batters in the first inning and retired 3 via strikeout… and the team never looked back. Due to being short some players, 2 players from the 5/6 level were called up and many thanks to Jillian P. and Kaitlyn K. for coming out in the cold and doing a great job for us. It was a well-earned win, the girls all played great.
On Saturday, 5/5 Westwood Softball's 7/8/9 squad continued its winning streak with their very own "Subway Series" game, as they faced Washington Township, playing on the new softball field in front of Westwood High School. Westwood's batting and fielding all came together in a high scoring game that ended with a 20-12 win. Fly ball catches by Olivia, Kiki, and Delia were key to keeping WT from catching up with Westwood's early lead in the game. Team Pampin has an 8-1 record for 2012 season. A helpful tip: you may want to park your car away from the backstop, if you're at a game on this field. Some very high fouled off hits made for a lot of breath-holding and nail-biting for spectators parked on the "horseshoe."
