The highly competitive Summer Softball Travel League has begun in earnest, with games starting shortly after the rec season ended. Westwood girls are playing in three divisions this year, part of the Midland Park Summer Softball League - U10A, U12B and U14B. Our U10A team is all Westwood girls, those players who are 10 years old or under as of Jan. 1 of this year. Our U12 and U14 teams are made up of girls from both Westwood and the township, and the same age cutoffs apply. The teams are made up of all-stars and Westwood plays home and away against teams from about a dozen other area towns.
The Washington Township/Westwood U12 team won its first game on Monday, June 13 by a score of 13-9 against Franklin Lakes. Pitchers Corrine S. and Melissa O. combined for the win. Melissa also chipped in with a bases loaded triple to spark the offense in the first inning. Melissa D. played well defensively in the outfield.
