Summer Stock Youth Program at Garage Theatre

SUMMER STOCK FOR YOUTH

The Garage Theatre Group, Bergen County's premiere professional theatre company, is offering a summer stock experience for aspiring young actors ages 10 -15. "This program is to give young actors the feel of what performing in summer stock is like", say Artistic Director, Michael Bias. " We will be performing 4 different plays in 8 weeks. A member can sign up for 1 session or all 4.Every 2 weeks a new play goes up and the public is invited to attend. This is really an intensive acting program for the student who wants to experience the summer stock experience. As Bergen county's oldest professional theatre company it is our aim to train the next generation of young artists."

Michael Bias will be directing the four productions. Mr.Bias has been training young artists for over 25 years. Former students can be seen on Broadway, in film and on television. A resident of Tenafly his aim is to create a safe nurturing environment where young actors can explore their talents. The Garage Theatre Group is celebrating it's 20th anniversary with this new and innovative program. Mr. Bias calls it "a boot camp for the young actor. I don't believe there is another program like this in the state" From 9:00am-4:00pm actors will work on a play to be presented the last Friday night of each session.

Sessions begin July 1 and run through August 23. Enrollment is limited.

In addition to the Summer Stock program The Garage will also be offering weekly classes for younger aspiring thespians. For 3.5 - 5 year olds GTG has Storytellers. This class is designed for the creative preschoolers and brings familiar stories to life using movement, music and games. Children will become their favorite characters and create plays of their own. This is a fun way for beginners to experience the joy of theatre. For ages 5 -7, GTG has The Mini Players. A must for every creative child. This class incorporates pantomime, sounds and simple plays in a fun, exciting environment. Students are encouraged to use their imaginations to the fullest as well as to create as a team. This is an excellent introduction to theater. And for the 6 - 8 year olds, "I Wanna Sing and Dance". This class focuses on the basics of singing and dancing for musical theater. Children learn to sell a Broadway song through voice and movement, and have a lot of fun doing it!  

The Garage Theatre Group is a 501c 3 not for profit professional theatre company in residence at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck N.J.
