The reoccurring floods have bombarded residents and businesses over the past few months. One has to wonder why after a number of years of no serious flooding what has changed? The Woodcliff Lake reservoir has been at the same level for many years. So, there is no change there. Perhaps there has been more precipitation, a wetter winter maybe. Is anyone tracking the weather records? Has this happened before? One thing that has not happened in a number of years is the de-silting/de-snagging of the brooks. These floods have been quick rising. Think of a clogged drain. It backs up then goes down slowly. I am no engineer but with less debris in the brook it should flow quicker with less back up. Mayor Birkner claims that will not help and is too expensive. One, it's not that expensive. This mayor and council spent $3 million and counting on a park instead of taking care of serious issues. Keeping the brooks clean and free of debris is a full-time job. Passing resolutions and having photo ops in the brook is not working on the problem. One politician said she's been working on this for 20 years. My boss would have fired me. The stress to the property owners cannot be measured and no one should have to go through this. What actions do you think need to be done to keep flooding to a minimum? Politicians love to hear themselves speak, but I would like to see them accomplish something.
