Timology - Hydration

As you know, hydration is key to surviving the summer sun. To make it simple, drink water, and a lots of it.

Now that summer is here, we should all prepare our bodies for the heat. As you know, hydration is key to surviving the summer sun. To make it simple, drink water, and a lots of it.

Our bodies are composed of 55-75% water. Every human function uses water, even breathing as we expel 2-4 cups of water through our lungs. This may sound minor, but it only takes 2% water loss to hinder athletic performance. So how much water should we drink daily? A good estimation is to consume half your body weight in ounces of water. So if you weigh 150 pounds, you should drink approximately 75 ounces water daily. If you are in the heat and active, you should consume more. Also try to consume fruit and fibrous vegetables that are mostly composed of water during the day. One of my favorite tricks for staying hydrated is to eat small portions of complex carbs during the day as well, because 1 gram of carbs holds 3.7 grams of water.

Effort is the essence of existence!
