Timology - Prepare For The Heat
With the summer upon us, we need to prepare our bodies for the heat. As you know, hydration is key to surviving the summer sun. To make it simple, drink water and lots of it.
With the summer upon us, we need to prepare our bodies for the heat. As you know, hydration is key to surviving the summer sun. To make it simple, drink water and lots of it. Our bodies are composed of 55 to 75% water. Every human function uses water, even breathing, and we expel 2 to 4 cups of water through our lungs. This may sound minor but it only takes a 2% water loss to hinder athletic performance.
So how much water should you drink daily? A good estimation is to consume half your body weight in ounces of water. So if you are a 150 pound person, you should drink 75 ounces of water daily. Drink more if you are in the heat and active. Also try to include fruit and vegetables during the day as they are comprised of mostly water.
One of my favorite tricks for staying hydrated is to eat small portions of complex carbs during the day because every gram of carbs in the body holds 3.7 grams of water.
