There is something that I have found odd about Spring 2012: We haven’t seen the launch of a new major diet. Or have we?

In looking back at the last 10 years or so, a new diet has come out at least once a year. Everything from Atkins to Zone, as well as a number of other crazy diets that have created a frenzy in the market.  Do you remember the apple and grapefruit diets, for example? Millions of people bought into those diets thinking it would change their appearance, but somehow they ended up changing their personalities instead. Eating 10 apples a day would give anyone a bad attitude.

So where’s the diet for 2012? The truth is, the old diets just haven’t left and the industry just didn’t have time to put a bow on it and sell it as “NEW!” this year. You can only package a gift so many times before excitement wears off. In truth, most diets have become harder to sell because dieting is more psychological than physical. So before you decide to start a diet or an updated nutritional plan, you should employ these psychological factors first:
