Continued Discussion About Shared Dispatch Expected at Council Meeting

Members of the Washington Township governing body will likely continue discussing possible grant money

Washington Township councilmen will likely continue discussion Tuesday about applying for a Bergen County Prosecutor's Office grant that could be used if officials decide to use the county services for dispatch.

At a special meeting last week, councilmen said they wanted to apply for the grant money of $100,000, which could be used for shared dispatch if the township agreed to use the county's service, run out of a Mahwah facility. The money could not be used to offset shared dispatch if the township were to join with five other municipalities for a proposed Pascack Valley dispatch service. Mayor Janet Sobkowicz allocated $500 to investigate the Pascack Valley option which would run out of the former Old Tappan police headquarters.

Emergency personnel packed the council chambers last week to raise their concerns and , pointing out some of the problems they saw.
