Democratic Candidates for Westwood Council

Westwood is currently facing a time of many changes and challenges;

·          While HUMC North Hospital has reopened, it brings with it the concurrent increase in traffic, greater demands on public services and questions of sustainable growth in the future. 

·         Our property taxes continue to escalate far beyond the state mandated cap in spite of the “creative accounting” statistics cited by the current council.

·         The borough is drowning in its own debt.

·         Yearly flooding plagues the borough, often severely damaging homes and business.

Problems and challenges like these are why we, Ruth Nass and Angela Perkins are running for Westwood Council.

The standard operating procedure of the current council consists of sitting on one’s hands and making excuses about why these chronic problems cannot be resolved.

We want to change all that.  We will ask the tough questions and find the right answers.  We will make decisions, not excuses.

We have the experience and new ideas to transform the “do-nothing” inertia of the council.  Ruth has a B.A. in Law and Society from Ramapo College and is a paralegal with a prominent New York law firm.  She is the past-president of the Roxbury Condominium Association.  As president Ruth managed finances, controlled expenditures, and addressed the complexities of flood damage. She personally understands what it means to be flooded.

Angela is a Westwood “lifer” having lived here for over 30 years.  A graduate of the Westwood school system, Angela earned a B.S. in chemical engineering from Rutgers School of Engineering, and then earned her law degree from Western New England School of Law.  Angela practices law right here in Westwood and volunteers as an alternate prosecutor in our municipal court.
