The Bicycle Touring Club of North Jersey (BTCNJ) will once again sponsor the Pedal for Progress bike and sewing machine collection on Saturday, April 20th from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. The collection will be held at the Graydon Pool parking lot at 259 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood, NJ.
The bicycles and sewing machines collected will go to people in need in developing countries where they will be distributed by Pedals for Progress. In BTCNJ’s previous bicycle collection for Pedals for Progress, the bikes were delivered to kids, families, and young adults to start a new race team in Vietnam.
These donations can be life changing, as a bicycle is often the main means of transportation in a developing country; a sewing machine can provide a source of income for a growing family. Each year 18 million bicycles are sold in this country, and many of the old bikes are left unused, forgotten, or discarded. You can help change a life in a country where a bicycle could mean the difference in being able to get to work and support a family. Please consider donating your used bike or sewing machine to give back to people in need. Donations will also be accepted to cover the transportation costs and the work of this charity based in NJ.
