In this dramatic courtroom thriller, written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Donna Bialkin, senior Sean O’Rourke plays Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee, a Navy lawyer who has never seen the inside of the courtroom but finds himself defending two stubborn Marines who have been accused of murdering a colleague. Kaffee is known as being lazy and had arranged for a plea bargain. When Commander Lieutenant Joanne Galloway (played by junior Emma Scholes) is assigned to assist Kaffee, she suspects that there’s more to the matter than they’ve been led to believe. She convinces her colleague that the case should go to court. The defense is originally based upon the fact that the victim was basically a screw-up and issued a “code red.” At Gitmo, screw-ups aren’t tolerated, especially by tough-as-nails Colonel Nathan Jessup, (played by senior Dan Robertson). Jessup and two senior officers appear to give all the help they can, but Kaffee knows something’s fishy. In the conclusion of the play, fireworks are set off by a confrontation between Jessup and Kaffee. This production includes a cast of 25 students, grades 8-12, making “A Few Good Men” a not-to-be missed show.
