Meals on Wheels seeking local potters for Empty Bowls Project

Potters and local craftspeople needed to donate handcrafted bowls to support annual event to fight hunger.

Empty Bowls in an international grassroots effort to fight hunger. The basic premise is simple: Potters and other craftspeople , educators and others work with the community to create handcrafted bowls. Guests are then invited to a simple meal of soup and bread. In exchange for a cash donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. The money raised is donated to an organization working to end hunger and food insecurity.

On a local level, the purpose of the Empty Bowls Project is to raise awareness about what Pascack Valley Meals on Wheels (PVMOW) does in the community, and to spotlight the potters and craftspeople who provide the beautiful bowls for the meal. It is a fundraiser that raises money to keep the cost of the two meals a day that our over 200 seniors and disabled persons receive, to a minimum. Through education, awareness and action, concerned individuals can change human attitudes that allow hunger to exist.

If you are a potter or craftsperson interested in joining this year’s Empty Bowls Project by donating handcrafted bowls, please contact the PVMOW office at 201.358.0050.
