STAC to Host Zumba for Autism: Event to Raise Money for Autism Speaks

College sponsored event to raise money for Autism Speaks, the world's leading autism science and advocacy organization.

(Sparkill, NY—April 24, 2015)St. Thomas Aquinas College will host Zumba for Autism, an event to raise money for Autism Speaks, on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the Romano Student Alumni Center, announces Dr. Elizabeth Finnegan, assistant professor of education at the College. The event is co-sponsored by St. Thomas Aquinas College, Dominican College (Blauvelt, NY), the New York Chapter of Council for Exceptional Children, and Autism Speaks. The registration fee for the event is $25 and it is open to the public.


Autism Speaks is the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.


“This event will be an ideal opportunity for people to come and learn about the needs of families with children with autism spectrum disorder. We will raise money, get fit and have fun,” says Dr. Finnegan.

St. Thomas Aquinas College came to host the Zumba for Autism event through their involvement with the New York Chapter of Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). Currently, the College has 11 active members involved in CEC’s organization.

“I’m very excited about this event, I think it is going to be a great way for college students and the community to raise autism awareness and support a worthy cause,” says Alexandra Graziano, St. Thomas Aquinas College Class of 2016, who is helping to coordinate the event.
