STAC Offers Math Camp for Elementary Students

Affordable program designed to give to give elementary students the opportunity to develop their math skills.

(SPARKILL, NY –May 28, 2015) St. Thomas Aquinas College’s School of Education will offer summer math camps from July 6th-9th and July 13th-16th, 2015, 9:00 a.m. through 12:00 p.m. daily, for students entering grades 1 through grades 6 in September 2015, announces Dr. Suzanne Reynolds, assistant dean in the School of Education. The math camp is made possible through the support of Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc.

By examining the Fibonacci Numbers, students will study how mathematics connects with art, architecture and science. Students will receive individual instruction and also will be actively involved in hands-on group activities.

“The math camp is designed to extend the opportunities that children have to work with mathematics and to learn how mathematics connects to the real-world,” says Dr. Reynolds. “We will have hands-on activities exploring some of the key ideas of the Common Core, such as number patterns, ratio and proportion. Students will be looking at how these patterns emerge in nature, art and music.”
