Timology - Information Overload - THE GYM of Montvale

Sometimes you just need a break from information overload.

I know you have not been receiving my weekly Timology. I had to take a mental hiatus! Sometimes it’s good to do that when you are on information overload. There are so many articles and facts about nutrition and training it makes my head spin. Most of it is overkill or -- even better -- stated scientific mumbo jumbo. The common lay person such as you and I are in a healthy living, diet conscience Twilight Zone. Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for science but when it doesn’t convert to real life it’s just wasted data. We have become a society of unaware informed people. The more we learn about health, the less we use it. We need to go back old school and start practicing good eating habits and moving.

Remember when:

1. We ate food and did not count calories or carbohydrates. Counting calories and carbohydrates isn’t a lifestyle and is too stressful. Didn’t we all seem like a thinner society when we just ate?

2. Before processed food, we ate a ton of fat and did not get fat or worry about heart disease. If I had asked my Dad what an omega 3 or 6 fatty acid was, he would have thought I was talking about the space program.

3. The only place there was a scale was at the doctor’s office. I would go a whole year before I realized I was chubby. Every pant size was the right size as long as they fit.

4. No one needed to know their body fat percentage. Do we really need tests to confirm how fat we really are? Here is my test: If I jump and it shakes ...it’s fat.

My point is sometimes we need to spend more time in the game instead of watching it from the side line. Information is crucial but you need to get your butt in gear. Live your life. Stop being a statistic.

Eat Well, Train Hard!
