Township Police Arrest Pair of Alleged Mail Thieves

Both were charged with trafficking in personal identifying information and unlawful taking.

Washington Township Police arrested two out-of-state residents Sunday for allegedly stealing mail from township residents.

According to a department press release, police received a call at about 2:50 p.m. Sunday from a resident who said a man was looking into mail boxes on Washington Avenue. After Police Cpl. Saverio Fasciano and Police Officer Heather Castronova arrived at the scene, they witnessed 36-year-old Brentwood, N.Y. resident Claudio Toribio discard a piece of mail from the car he was in, the release read.

With help from Ho-Ho-Kus and Hillsdale officers, police then arrested Toribio and 35-year-old Brooksville, Fla., resident Norkelis Hilario.

Toribio and Hilario were both charged with trafficking in personal identifying information pertaining to another and theft by unlawful taking. Bail was set at $7,500 each.
