Washington Council Sets Budget Meeting Dates

The first meeting will take place Friday at 6 p.m.

The Washington Township Council set dates for meetings to go over the 2012 budget Monday night. The first will be February 10 at 6 p.m. in the third floor conference room, with following meetings taking place on February 13 at 6 p.m. and February 15 and 22 at 5:30 p.m.

According to Mayor Janet Sobkowicz, the township finished 2011 with a surplus of about $1,653,000, which was about $334,000 less than in 2010. Sobkowicz said the drop was due to lower interest rates and the expenses caused by Hurricane Irene and the October snowstorm. The township is still waiting to hear how much aid they will receive from the state, which could also affect the budget.

At their meeting Monday, the council also approved an ordinance at their meeting Monday which sets the per diem rate for the township's alternate proscutor and special police officers working events like parades.

The council decided to wait on another ordinance which would set the salaries for several township employees pending further information. As planned, the business administrator would earn $90,000, the deputy administrator would make $55,000 and the administrative secretary would make $38,081. Several other part-time employees would make hourly wages.
