Washington Township Resident Fights Off Intruder
The masked man fled out a window early Sunday morning, according to police.

A Washington Township resident "scuffled" with a masked intruder he found in his Van Emburgh Avenue home early Sunday morning, according to Washington Township Police.
The intruder, who was wearing all black and masked, fled into the home's master bedroom and locked the door.
The homeowners called police, but by the time they arrived and entered the bedroom, the man was gone. The intruder may have entered and exited through a window in the attached master bathroom, police said.

Law enforcement sources said the suspect at one point did not have his mask on, and is believed to be an older white male.
"A small army" of police from around the Pascack Valley and Ridgewood, the Bergen County Police and the Bergen County Sheriff's Department established a perimeter near IHA but the man was not found.

The area has been a targeted by burglars in the past year. Dozens of Ridgewood homes east of Route 17 have fallen victim, as well as homes on the Washington Township side of the border.
