Westwood Woman Assaulted in her Home, Police Say

A Passaic man is accused of assaulting a woman in her Westwood home, threatening her children and restraining her.

A 27-year-old Passaic man was arrested after he allegedly broke into the home of a Westwood woman, assaulting her and threatening her children, authorities said Friday. 

Jose Godinez-Leal was charged with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, among other charges, after a joint investigation by Westwood police and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit.

Godinez-Leal was arrested Thursday at the Westwood home of a female acquaintance, according to the prosecutor's office.

The woman told police Godinez-Leal physically assaulted her, attempted to sexually assault her, threatened her and her children, stole her cell phone and restrained her, authorities said. 

Godinez-Leal was initially charged with attempted aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, burglary, criminal restraint and theft.

After further investigation, he was also charged with aggravated sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child. 

Bail was set at $500,000.
