WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Patch was the first to report on April 2 that Woodbridge plans to relocate its municipal court to 380 Berry Street, the former Jersey Federal Credit Union building.

And now today, here are more details on the move:

The Township purchased the building from the N.J. Federal Credit Union for $2.8 million. That was financed by a municipal bond, meaning Woodbridge had to borrow money. The Township is currently seeking grant funding to pay for the renovations that must be made inside to turn it into a courthouse.

There is no timeline established yet for when the town court will relocate there, but it appears to be several years off.

Only the Woodbridge Municipal Court will relocate there, said town spokesman John Hagerty. No other town offices will move there, for now.

380 Berry Street is just down the street from Woodbridge town hall and been vacant and up for sale for the past several years.

The fact that the Woodbridge town court is moving was first announced by Mayor John McCormac in his State of the Township, which he gave to the public in late March. He said the Woodbridge municipal court is the second busiest in the state, and "we can always use more parking."
