1. Bernalillo County expanding out-of-school programs (koat.com) — Bernalillo County just secured $1 million from the state to expand out-of-school programs at local community centers, including new Community School Impact Coordinators working through Albuquerque Public Schools. The funding will boost arts education, STEAM activities, and family engagement, making it easier for Albuquerque-area families to connect with free or low-cost enrichment options close to home.
   

2. AG goes to federal court for DEA 'fentanyl walking' records (abqjournal.com subscription) — New Mexico's attorney general is suing in federal court in Albuquerque to force release of records on DEA "fentanyl walking" tactics that allegedly let huge pill shipments reach the city. The case centers on why agents didn't stop loads bound for Albuquerque while overdose deaths here and statewide continue to climb sharply.
   

3. Cynthia Bark (chadronradio.com) — Albuquerque is mourning Cynthia Lynn Bark, a longtime city resident who worked for the City of Albuquerque's Library and Transit Maintenance departments and recently completed its Management Development Program. Born in Denver and raised partly in South Dakota, she built her adult life in Albuquerque, where her faith, Oglala Lakota heritage, and devotion to family shaped how friends and coworkers will remember her.
   

4. Arm wrestling, horseshoes highlight 2026 New Mexico Games in Albuquerque (abqjournal.com subscription) — Arm wrestlers and horseshoe pitchers will converge in Albuquerque this Saturday for New Mexico Games tournaments at the Elks Lodge near Kirtland Air Force Base and Mariposa Basin Park. With local standouts like Ken Jones and rising arm-wrestling talent Nathan Boling competing, residents can watch or join in a long-running statewide sports tradition happening right in the city.
   

5. Michelin's new southwest guide honors New Mexico restaurants (kob.com) — Albuquerque diners can now brag that Campo at Los Poblanos and Frontier have landed in Michelin's first-ever Southwest guide, with Frontier earning a coveted Bib Gourmand nod. Local leaders say the recognition puts Albuquerque's food scene alongside Santa Fe's and helps showcase New Mexico cuisine to national and international travelers.
