1. Construction blasting to begin on Unser this week (kob.com) — Drivers in northwest Albuquerque should prepare for short daytime closures on Unser Boulevard this week as blasting begins for the Upgrade Unser‑Paseo project. Crews will shut down Unser between Paseo del Norte and Blue Feather for up to 30 minutes at a time, with brief stops on Paseo and marked detours via Universe and Paradise boulevards.
   

2. X Marks the Spot: City residents can help balloon pilots by offering safe landing spots (abq.news) — Bernalillo County and the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta are inviting local landowners to place large white X markers on their properties to signal safe balloon landing spots during this year's Fiesta, Oct. 3–11. About 200 free markers are available at locations across the Albuquerque area, and participating property owners can even be selected as "landowner of the day" for prize packages.
   

3. Animal tranquilizer added to street opioids is complicating overdose reversals and detox (kunm.org) — Albuquerque is seeing especially high levels of a veterinary tranquilizer, medetomidine, mixed into street opioids, making overdoses harder to reverse and withdrawals potentially fatal. The New Mexico Harm Reduction Collaborative, based in the International District, is warning residents and offering free drug testing while urging hospitals to recognize and properly treat these dangerous withdrawals.
   

4. City of Albuquerque to Launch "Cruisers for Route 66" Stewardship Program Ahead of Centennial Celebration (cabq.gov) — Albuquerque is launching a two-year "Cruisers for Route 66" stewardship program, inviting local car clubs and community groups to adopt and beautify stretches of Central Avenue ahead of Route 66's centennial. A public launch and press conference happens today at 1:45 p.m. at the Central and Atrisco ART station, featuring city leaders, classic cars, and volunteer cleanup demonstrations.
   

5. Affordable senior housing apartment complex opens in Albuquerque (krqe.com) — A new affordable senior housing complex, Somos Apartments near Central and Alcazar, has opened in Albuquerque, adding 70 income-restricted units for older residents. Backed by millions in funding, including low-income housing tax credits, the four-story development offers amenities like a community lobby, kitchen, and fitness room aimed at providing stability and connection for seniors.
