Crimes Nearby: Man Charged in Two Bank Robberies

A look at recent crime in the region.

The following information was supplied by the Suffolk County police department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

WEST ISLIP

Suffolk Police confirmed to Patch Tuesday that an arrest has been made in the robbery of a People's United Bank in West Islip last month.

James Darrow, 49, of Medford, is also charged with robbing another bank in Farmingville a week earlier, police said.

Darrow was involved in a high-speed police chase following a traffic stop in Islip on Sept. 1. Police say he was driving a stolen Kia at the time. Police called off the pursuit after it exceeded 100 mph and several cars were almost struck by the Kia, which eventually crashed into a Chevy Trailblazer in Deer Park.

WEST BABYLON

Suffolk County Police have arrested a Bay Shore man for a drive-by shooting that injured one man earlier this week in West Babylon.

Police said Shameek Hutchinson, 17, of Bay Shore, was charged with assault in the first degree and criminal use of a firearm in the first degree after he allegedly took part in a drive-by shooting that injured a 21-year-old West Babylon man on Monday afternoon.

Suffolk County Police said 21 year-old Christian Warren was in front of his home on Wright Street in West Babylon at around 4:30 p.m. on Monday when he was shot by a person who fired from a passing vehicle.

DEER PARK

Suffolk Police are looking for the second of two male robbers who held up a person on Hunter Avenue in West Islip after arresting one teenager they say participated in the crime.

Joshua Rosenberg, 16, of Deer Park, was arrested on Saturday and is charged with two felonies in relation to the alleged crime that took place last Friday.
